Louis Jones revives Spectrals moniker, shares new single

Louis Jones has shared a new single under his long-dormant Spectrals moniker.

‘Re-Runs’ is out digitally today and marks the West Yorkshire singer-songwriter’s first new music to be released under his decorated solo guise in thirteen years. Originally conceiving his solitary songwriting practice in 2009, Jones would become established as a linchpin of jangle pop and surf-referencing guitar music through the release of two-full length albums and international tours alongside such kindred spirits as Best Coast, Girls and Real Estate over a four-year period before abruptly retiring the project in 2013. In subsequent years Jones would join The Ordinary Boys as a second guitarist and contribute to the band’s eponymous fourth album whilst alumni of his live band shifted focus to projects such as Holodrum, Hookworms, Saint Charles and XAM Duo. ‘Re-Runs’ was recorded with Tom Pooley in late 2025 and mastered by Orchid’s Will Killingsworth, the resultant work excavating the turmoil of Jones’ time spent away from his primary creative outlet and exhibiting a deft return to the infectious melodicism that was integral to his prior musical output under the Spectrals name.

Jones shares,

“I have hidden from Spectrals for over a decade, in avoidance, and by minimising what it meant to me. It was only in articulating something difficult and unguarded that I felt able to consider putting out ‘Re-Runs’, and crucially, in owing it to a collaborator, kill self-doubt and extricate myself from a severe and painful inability to finish songs for the band.”
