The burgeoning Pennsylvania rock band’s Functional Music arrives in November.
American Motors have announced the release of a new album.
Functional Music is scheduled for arrival through Expert Work, The Ghost Is Clear and Vina Records on 6th November and will mark the burgeoning Lancaster, Pennsylvania rock band’s second full-length work to date. Recognising the rich form of vein that was established through the creation of their standout 2024 debut album Content, singer-guitarist Dustin White and drummer Alex Stewart uprooted once more to Baltimore, Maryland in May 2026 to document their latest collection of songs through further recording sessions with post-hardcore veteran J. Robbins at the Jawbox leader’s Magpie Cage studio facility over a four-day period. ‘no horses’ sets forth the first preview of the band’s welcomed return as White’s deadpan vocal unfurls with command above an instrumental landscape deftly oscillating between shimmering atmospherics and bone-rattling unified stabs executed with blunt precision.
Of the forthcoming album White shares,
“Making the first record, we established a conceptual framework to work inside of. This time we’re adding more detail inside that framework, and pushing against it slightly. We made some bigger swings in a few spots, but still just did what we do, which is basically whatever Alex and I find interesting. We’re still interested in experimenting with empty space and repetition. Working with J again was an absolute dream, and no band I’ve been in has managed to release a second LP while still continuing to function as a band, so this feels like a major accomplishment. It’s a little more interior to the exterior of the first LP. It’s a society, and we’re just living in it.”
