Yours Sincerely will mark the revered Japanese songwriter and Yellow Magic Orchestra component’s first new collection of solo works to materialise in seven years.

Yours Sincerely is scheduled for release through Ghostly International on 11th September and will mark the legendary Japanese songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and Yellow Magic Orchestra component’s first collection of new solo works to materialise in seven years. Hosono crafted his twenty-third album over the course of two years and shares of its conception,
“It started with a simple question: how do you express the Japanese ideas of omoiyari, jihi, or boseiai in English? I searched, but no word felt quite right. Each came close, yet carried a slightly different nuance. Perhaps the nearest was ‘compassion.’ It is often translated as ‘omoiyari’ in Japanese, but its original meaning is ‘to suffer together.’ It tends to carry a sense of sympathy or pity-something that feels distinct from the Japanese sense of omoiyari. In Japanese, omoiyari also includes the feeling of ‘rejoicing together.’ In that sense, it may even seem like the opposite. The perspective, the emotional angle-subtly but fundamentally different. For that reason, I chose not to use ‘compassion.’ Instead, I turned to a more familiar word often used to close a letter: ‘Sincerely.’”
Coinciding with the release of Yours Sincerely today it has also been shared that Hosono will travel to the USA in September for a pair of headline concerts held in New York City and Los Angeles, both featuring support from similarly chameleonic San Francisco indie rock linchpin Toro y Moi. Tickets for the concerts will be available to purchase through Live Nation from 29th May, preceded by an artist presale available to those who pre-order the forthcoming album from the Ghostly International website commencing 26th May.
