Carlos Niño announces new album featuring André 3000, Sam Gendel and more

The prolific Los Angeles producer and percussionist’s Placenta releases in May.

Carlos Niño has announced the release of a new album.

Placenta is scheduled for release in May and said to have been inspired by the experiences of pregnancy and parenthood that surrounded the birth of Niño’s second child. The newly announced effort marks the Los Angeles producer and percussionist’s fourth full-length solo studio album to release through International Anthem since 2020, furthering a period of proliferation that has also encompassed a central role within the creation of André 3000’s widely publicised 2023 debut solo album New Blue Sun and collaborations with Idris Ackamoor, Shabaka Hutchings, Thandi Ntuli and Kamasi Washington.

Similarly to previous releases under the Carlos Niño & Friends moniker Placenta boasts a noteworthy roster of personnel, drawing on the talents of André 3000, Surya Botofasina, Sam Gendel, Nate Mercereau and Deantoni Parks amongst others.
