Posthumous vocal album from Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou released

The decorated Ethiopian composer-pianist recorded Souvenirs between 1977 and 1985.

A new album of music from fabled Ethiopian nun, composer and pianist Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou has been released.

Souvenirs marks the first collection of works from Emahoy to posthumously release since passing away in 2023 and comprises eight songs recorded by the late and beloved Addis Ababa-born musician direct to cassette tape at home between 1977 and 1985. Notably the album is the first in Emahoy’s discography to feature vocals in accompaniment of her evocative and classically informed piano stylings, shining light on a newly uncovered dimension of her revered creative nous.

Souvenirs is out now via Mississippi Records. Purchase the album on vinyl, cassette tape and CD here.
