Stones Throw Records announce Haruomi Hosono tribute album

Featuring contributions from Mac DeMarco, John Carroll Kirby, Jerry Paper and more.

Decorated Los Angeles imprint Stones Throw Records have announced plans to oversee the release of an album paying tribute to Japanese singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Haruomi Hosono.

The label’s newly announced homage to the beloved Yellow Magic Orchestra component follows on from the recent fiftieth anniversary of his landmark debut solo album Hosono House, and is set to feature contributions from a noteworthy roster including Mac DeMarco, John Carroll Kirby, Jerry Paper, Akiko Yano and Sam Gendel among others. Leading the project’s announcement today Stones Throw have premiered DeMarco’s rendition of ‘Boku Wa Chotto’.

DeMarco explains of his contribution,

“Hosono is my hero, I love all of his music, I am eternally at his every beck and call, it is my honor to be a part of this compilation. I recorded this cover in Joe Bird’s guest room in Paris, August 2023. I hope my Japanese pronunciation isn’t too horrible.”
