Unknown Mortal Orchestra announce double album

V is led by new single ‘Layla’.

Intercontinental psych rock fixtures Unknown Mortal Orchestra have announced the release of their long-awaited sixth album.

V is geared for release on March 17th via longtime label Jagjaguwar and marks the celebrated outfit’s first full-length album to release since 2018’s Sex & Food and IC-01 Hanoi.

A press release notes that the forthcoming long player was crafted during the pandemic between Palm Springs, California and Hilo, Hawaii with principal songwriter Ruban Nielson’s creative output informed by the breezy sonics of AOR and Hawaiian Hapa-haole music. Taking shape as a double album, its fourteen tracks feature contributions from Kody Nielson, Chris Nielson and Jacob Portrait helming drums, saxophone and flute and bass guitar respectively.

Succeeding the album’s release the group will embark on previously announced tours of North America and Europe with stops on their itinerary including Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, New York, Boston, Brussels, London, Manchester, Glasgow and more. The band will also head up the 2023 lineup for Dorset’s End Of The Road alongside King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Future Islands and Wilco.
