Raphael Saadiq gifts the NPR Tiny Desk a lesson in timeless soul

Performing cuts from his fifth album Jimmy Lee and Lucky Daye’s Grammy-nominated Painted.

Bearing a name synonymous with the revered neo-soul movement of the late 1990s and fingerprints on some of the best albums of the past decade (including but not limited to executive producer credits on Solange‘s A Seat At The Table), Raphael Saadiq is rightly considered by many to be a legend within the world of contemporary R&B.

Returning in October for his second stint in ten years, Saadiq headlined NPR’s Tiny Desk Fest to perform a handful of tracks from his recent soul-bearing fifth album Jimmy Lee. Within the set Saadiq also made time to welcome Lucky Daye to the stage to share a performance of two songs from his own Grammy-nominated debut album Painted.
