The New York singer-songwriter and producer’s hooke’s law will arrive on October 31st.
KeiyaA has announced the release of a new album.
hooke’s law is scheduled for arrival through XL Recordings on October 31st and will mark the Chicago-born, New York City-based singer-songwriter and producer’s second full-length solo album to date. The successor to 2020’s widely acclaimed Forever, Ya Girl – which recently received its own keenly awaited physical reissue courtesy of the British imprint following previous limited and long sold out self-released runs – was entirely self-written, performed and produced over a five-year period and will be promoted by tours of the USA and Europe respectively taking place throughout October and November.
Of her newly announced album KeiyaA explains,
“An album about the journey of self love, from an angle that isn’t all affirmations and capitalistic self-care. It’s not a linear story with a moral at the end. It’s more of a cycle, a spiral – it’s Hooke’s law… With this work, I aim to interrogate and embrace anger and conflict, disappointment and dissatisfaction, about not being docile and about rejecting mammyism and traditional expectations of fat black brown and dark skinned women in our communities. I speak about desire + longing, about examining maladaptive tendencies, conflict avoidance – the eternal relationship with the self.”
