American jazz saxophonist Marshall Allen has released a new album of live recordings following on from the recent arrival of his debut solo album New Dawn.
Out today via Otherly Love and Ars Nova Records, the long-running Sun Ra Arkestra bandleader’s Live In Philadelphia chronicles a series of nine concert performances presented under the burgeoning Marshall Allen’s Ghost Horizons banner at local venue Solar Myth over a two-year period between 2022 and 2024. With accompaniment from a rotating cast of collaborators, across the album’s runtime Marshall is flanked by a wealth of notable names including Arkestra cohorts Dave Davies, DM Hotep, Tara Middleton and Michael Ray, James Brandon Lewis, Irreversible Entanglements’ Tcheser Holmes and Luke Stewart and Yo La Tengo’s James McNew among others.
