Deerhoof release new double single

A livestream documenting the lathe-cutting process for ‘Sparrow Sparrow’ and ‘Overrated Species Anyhow’ will precede the project’s wider release.

Deerhoof have announced the release of a new double single.

The decorated and prolific San Francisco experimental rock troupe’s ‘Sparrow Sparrow’ and ‘Overrated Species Anyhow’ premiere digitally today at 4pm ET with an accompanying physical release to be overseen by longtime label Joyful Noise Recordings. During the project’s initial 24 hours of release the two songs will be listenable exclusively through a livestream link sharing the lathe-cutting process for a limited vinyl edition, thereafter becoming accessible through streaming platforms. All proceeds generated through purchases of the vinyl edition of ‘Sparrow Sparrow’ and ‘Overrated Species Anyhow’ will be donated to The Trevor Project, an organisation whose efforts focus on suicide prevention in LGBTQ+ youth.

A statement from the band reads,

“This “Double B-Side” is meant as a life beam to anyone who has been feeling dehumanized by mainstream society lately. Anyone who didn’t find themselves in the rankings of which races, nationalities, genders, or belief systems have equal value. Anyone who sees life on earth as something more than some capitalist death match. Anyone who got thrown under the bus in the past year’s race to the bottom. Anyone who isn’t one of 2781 billionaires who’ve taken control of the world. Anyone refusing to lick the fascist boot.m

Deerhoof’s nineteenth and latest full-length studio album Miracle-Level released in 2023. Subsequently the band released a live album entitled The Free Triple Live Album last year, whilst drummer and founding member Greg Saunier also saw the release his debut solo album entitled We Sang, Therefore We Were.
