Low’s Alan Sparhawk announces solo album, shares lead single

White Roses, My God will arrive in September.

Alan Sparhawk of Low notoriety has  announced the release of a solo album.

White Roses, My God is scheduled for arrival through Sub Pop on September 27th and marks the American singer-songwriter and indie rock linchpin’s first solo material to surface since the events of partner Mimi Parker’s widely lamented passing and the subsequent retirement of Low in 2022. Forged through experimentations with a drum machine and hardware synthesis, musical reference points that informed Sparhawk’s writing during the creation of his forthcoming album are said to include 100 Gecs, Childish Gambino and Prince.

Bolstering the release of White Roses, My God Sparhawk is scheduled to descend upon the UK and Ireland for a short run of recently announced concerts this November that will include an appearance at Pitchfork Music Festival’s London outpost, followed by US tour dates in support of Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

Sparhawk shares of his latest solo endeavour’s formation,

“The kids had the drum machine and a microphone set up in the studio. They’d have their friends over sometimes, and they’d record themselves taking turns free-styling. I brought them a synth and a voice pitch affect to have more options to mess with but before long, my curiosity won, and I found myself secretly stabbing around at possibilities with the unfamiliar tools, improvising, turning knobs until something would hit and a song would form. In hindsight, I can see now that it must have been what needed to come out of me, but at the time it felt like chaos and naïveté-even a little desperate. It kept tapping into a part of me that I’ve come to trust, so I kept recording.”
