Roy Nathanson and Curtis Fowlkes’ The Jazz Passengers release new album

Big Large: In Memory of Curtis Fowlkes was recorded shortly before the New York trombonist’s death in 2023.

The Jazz Passengers have released a new album.

First conceived by saxophonist Roy Nathanson and trombonist Curtis Fowlkes in 1987 succeeding their tenures of membership in the Big Apple Circus and John Lurie’s famed Lounge Lizards, The Jazz Passengers became renowned as fixtures of the New York City musical landscape during their formative years and have since remained active for over three decades whilst drawing in collaboration from the likes of Debbie Harry and Nick Hakim among others. The group’s newly released album Big Large: In Memory of Curtis Fowlkes marks their first full-length statement in seven years and as indicated by its title, is also the first set of recordings to surface since Fowlkes passed away in 2023. Further contributors to the group’s newly released album include Gabe Nathanson and long-running cohorts Marc Ribot, E.J. Rodriguez and Bill Ware.
