American saxophonist, composer and bandleader Kamasi Washington has announced the release of his fifth full-length studio album.
Fearless Movement is scheduled for release on May 3rd through longtime label Young and will mark the Los Angeles jazz titan’s first full-length solo effort to materialise in six years. Following onward from 2018’s critically acclaimed Heaven And Earth and a subsequent tenure of collaborative musical output as a member of Dinner Party and Throttle Elevator Music, the forthcoming long-player features contributions from a slew of noteworthy collaborators including André 3000, BJ The Chicago Kid, George Clinton, Terrace Martin, Patrice Quinn and Thundercat among others.
Of the events that inspired Fearless Movement Washington explains,
“Being a father means the horizon of your life all of a sudden shows up. My mortality became more apparent to me, but also my immortality — realizing that my daughter is going to live on and see things that I’m never going to see. I had to become comfortable with this, and that affected the music that I was making.”
