The San Jose band’s catalog of music is set to release on digital and physical formats in the coming months.
Californian shoegaze outfit Ozean have signed to decorated archival label The Numero Group.
Hailing from San Jose, the quartet’s fleeting existence was instigated through the chance meeting of members Eric Shea, Mike Prosenko and Mark Baldwin during a 1991 Ride and Lush concert. Thereafter with the addition of singer Lisa Baer the short-lived group was fully formed, however their tenure as a functioning unit would be maintained for only enough time to release a lone three-song EP on cassette tape – to the praises of Slowdive’s Rachel Goswell – and embark upon two live performances before dissolving in favour of other creative pursuits.
Whilst inactive for three decades, an unwavering interest in the effect-laden orbit of shoegaze and resourceful excavation of the internet’s vast landscape has found new ears gravitating to Ozean’s buoyant music at an increasing rate in recent years. Through their newly formed partnership with The Numero Group the defunct group’s catalog will be shared in instalments over the coming months with a physical release on 12” vinyl scheduled to follow in 2024.
Bedhead, Codeine, Duster and Karate are among other bands to partner with The Numero Group for reissue campaigns of their respective discographies in recent years.
