Australian singer-songwriter and guitarist Gab Winterfield has reemerged to share the first preview of a new album set to release under his Golf Alpha Bravo moniker.
Surf The Coffin (Bury Me With My Gat) was recorded during the Summer of 2022 from Winterfield’s sun-soaked home in the Hollywood neighbourhood of Los Angeles, California and marks the second full-length album to release under the Jagwar Ma alumnus’ burgeoning solo guise.
Streaming today, lead single ‘Falling Again’ finds Winterfield forging furthermore in to and widening the scope of the infectious coastal sound that permeated his 2020 debut solo artistic statement The Sundog LP. Remaining rooted in an affinity for blues and surf-inspired motifs, the newly released single skilfully coalesces stylistic hallmarks such as slide guitar with the rich vocal harmonies retained from Winterfield’s critically acclaimed dance floor-leaning endeavours with Jono Ma and a primitive, simmering rhythm to deft effect. Within the song’s dynamic peaks Winterfield’s melodic sensibilities submit to a haze of all-encompassing ambience that lends a languid atmosphere akin to the heady realms of dream pop, psychedelic rock and shoegaze.
Of his new single’s lyrical themes Winterfield shares,
“Falling Again is a story about a happy-go-lucky person trying to make sense of the next phase of their life…
It makes me think of my first job out of high school. I used to drive around my neighborhood delivering pizzas. After work I’d take my cash earnings and go meet some friends and play pool. I would listen to a greatest hits Link Wray CD, and The Beach Boys – Pet Sounds on repeat as my car couldn’t play streaming/iPods. I was happy in my small life. This song reminds me of those warm summer night drives.”
