The Messthetics guitarist Anthony Pirog announces new solo album

Nepenthe Series Vol. 1 features contributions from John Frusciante, Nels Cline, Andy Summers and more.

American composer and guitarist Anthony Pirog has announced the release of a new solo album.

Nepenthe Series Vol. 1 is positioned for release on November 10th through Otherly Love and is a largely collaborative affair that boasts a noteworthy roster of personnel. No stranger to high profile collaboration, Pirog is likely best known to many for his role as the guitarist of instrumental trio and Fugazi offshoot The Messthetics alongside bassist Joe Lally and drummer Brendan Canty. Beyond his work within the aforementioned Pirog is an established and longstanding fixture of myriad stylistic sensibilities within the music scene of Washington, D.C.

Pirog’s forthcoming full-length project sees an exploration of sprawling ambient realms, devised through the guitarist’s responses to initial compositional ideas provided by collaborators including John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Trickfinger, The Mars Volta), Nels Cline (Wilco, Big Walnuts Yonder), Andy Summers (The Police) and Janel Leppin.
