Talking Heads to reunite for Stop Making Sense Q&A

Toronto International Film Fest will host the conversation this September.

Seminal American rock outfit Talking Heads are set to reunite for the first time in over twenty years.

Members David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz and Jerry Harrison will assemble next month at the Toronto International Film Fest for a Q&A aligning with the fortieth anniversary of their iconic concert film Stop Making Sense. Moderated by filmmaker Spike Lee, the conversation will follow the premiere of a forthcoming 4k restoration of the critically acclaimed visual helmed by A24. Both Stop Making Sense and the band’s Q&A will be shown at IMAX theatres across the world including London’s BFI IMAX.

Talking Heads last regrouped in 2002 at the ceremony of their induction in to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. The appearance included their first live performance as a group since 1984, encompassing renditions of ‘Life During Wartime’, ‘Psycho Killer’ and ‘Burning Down the House’.

Byrne recently reflected on the dissolution of Talking Heads during a conversation with People,

“As a younger person, I was not as pleasant to be around. When I was working on some Talking Heads shows, I was more of a little tyrant… And then I learned to relax, and I also learned that collaborating with people, both sides get more if there’s a good relationship instead of me telling everybody what to do.”

Speaking to the current relationship between himself and his former bandmates Byrne continued,

“We have a cordial relationship now. We’re sort of in touch, but we don’t hang out together.”
