John Coltrane live recordings unearthed for new album

Evenings at the Village Gate: John Coltrane With Eric Dolphy features previously unreleased live recordings featuring Dolphy, McCoy Tyner, Reggie Workman, and Elvin Jones.

A new live album featuring a 1961 performance from John Coltrane has been announced.

Evenings at the Village Gate: John Coltrane With Eric Dolphy comprises previously unreleased recordings of the late jazz pioneer performing during his famed month-long residency at New York City’s Village Gate, bolstered by accompaniment from Eric Dolphy, McCoy Tyner, Reggie Workman and Elvin Jones. The recordings were recently unearthed from the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts’ sound archives and include performances of ‘My Favourite Things’, ‘Africa’ and more.
