John Carroll Kirby announces new solo album, shares opening track

Blowout releases on June 30th.

Prolific LA composer, producer and keyboardist John Carroll Kirby has returned with the announcement of a new solo album.

Blowout was inspired by and conceptualised during a 2021 visit to Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica wherein Kirby collaborated with local musicians between time spent gathering footage for an episode of his ‘Kirby’s Gold’ travelogue series with the Kawe Calypso Band. Thereafter upon returning to Los Angeles Kirby tracked the project’s comprising songs at 64 Sound Studios with a pared-back band that included saxophonist and frequent collaborator Logan Hone among its personnel.

Set for release on June 30th through longstanding label Stones Throw Records, the forthcoming album follows 2022’s Dance Ancestral and mostly recently Sundown, Kirby’s sophomore full-length collaborative effort with famed singer-songwriter Eddie Chacon released in March.
