Red Hot & Ra: Nuclear War features contributions from Georgia Anne Muldrow, Josef Leimberg, Irreversible Entanglements and more.
Red Hot Organisation have announced plans to embark upon a series of new releases dubbed Red Hot + Ra and crafted in tribute to forward-thinking American pianist and bandleader Sun Ra. The non-profit fundraising organisation’s latest endeavour will unfold over the course of two years and follows previous albums compiled in tribute to the likes of Nigerian Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti and American singer-songwriter and cellist Arthur Russell.
The first volume in the looming series entitled Red Hot & Ra: Nuclear War is set for arrival on May 26th and will see musicians offer their interpretations of Sun Ra’s 1980s composition ‘Nuclear War’, which the late jazz fixture wrote in response to a meltdown at the Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant near Philadelphia where he and his cohorts in the Arkestra lived. Among contributors to the Red Hot + Ra series’ first volume are Georgia Anne Muldrow, Josef Leimberg and Irreversible Entanglements.
