Newport Jazz Festival share 2023 first wave lineup

The festival’s looming edition boasts appearances from Kamasi Washington, Thundercat, Herbie Hancock, Charles Lloyd and more.

Newport Jazz Festival have announced the first wave of names set to appear at their forthcoming 2023 edition.

A longstanding and venerated fixture of the USA’s festival circuit, the Rhode Island event was established in 1954 and will celebrate their 69th birthday this year between August 4th and 6th from Fort Adams State Park.

Leading from the front in Newport Jazz Festival’s keenly awaited return, this week it is revealed that Kamasi Washington, Jon Batiste, Thundercat, Herbie Hancock and Grateful Dead tribute act Joe Russo’s Almost Dead will assume headlining performance slots at the festival’s looming 2023 event.

Elsewhere the festival will also host performances from Charles Lloyd’s New Quartet, DOMi & JD Beck, Alfa Mist, Keyon Harrold, a collaborative set from Arooj Aftab, Vijay Iyer and Shahzad Ismaily and much more within a lineup that strikes a deft balance between forward-thinking contemporary talent and legends of the genre.
