Black Country, New Road release new concert film

Live At Bush Hall chronicles three performances of the group’s first material written as a sextet.

Black Country, New Road have shared a new film entitled Live At Bush Hall.

The newly released visual chronicles the band’s three recent sold out shows at London’s Bush Hall in December where they performed a set of new material. The songs performed mark the first to be developed by the band within their current configuration as a sextet following the departure of longtime singer and guitarist Isaac Wood.

The show toured extensively throughout 2022 including at festivals such as Primavera Sound and Fuji Rock and across the United States in support of kindred spirits black midi before being immortalised in the newly released format.

Of the film and featured songs pianist May Kershaw explains,

“We didn’t want to do a studio album. We wrote the new tracks specifically to perform live, so we thought it might be a nice idea to put out a performance.”

Guitarist Luke May continues,

“We had concerns from live sessions we’ve seen or done in the past. They are very obviously clumped together visually from multiple performances. That can take you out of the performance and make it seem artificial and like it’s not actually live. So we came up with the idea to make the three nights look visually distinct from one another. To scratch the idea of trying to disguise anything. We wanted it to be very honest and let people know that we had three goes at it. This isn’t just us playing the whole thing non-stop.”
