Moog have announced the return of their iconic Minimoog Model D synthesizer.
Globally revered and heralded for its immeasurable influence on music, the Minimoog Model D originally surfaced in 1970 and enjoyed eleven years of praise and ubiquity before being discontinued in 1981. The all-analogue monophonic instrument was considered to be the world’s first portable synthesizer and became integral to the work of numerous musical innovators, from Bernie Worrell of Parliament Funkadelic to Sun Ra.
A revived interest in analogue synthesis in later years saw demand for the instrument’s unmatched sound reach fever pitch once more and in 2016 the North Carolina company resumed production of their landmark design to critical acclaim, however the run proved to be short-lived, winding down after only one year due to a shortage of parts.
Moog state that the 2022 iteration of the Minimoog Model D will feature the same sound engine and signal path as the original 1970s instrument whilst also retaining all modifications that were implemented within the 2016 reissue. Among those specs are a dedicated analogue LFO with triangle and square waveshapes, a premium Fatar keybed with velocity and after pressure, MIDI integration, a mixer feedback modification and a spring-loaded pitch wheel with centre deadband.
The Moog Minimoog Model D is priced at £5,290.99 and available to purchase now. See the instrument in action below and empty thy pockets here.
