Contemporary psych rock fixtures Unknown Mortal Orchestra have resurfaced to share a new single and international touring plans set to unfold in 2023.
‘I Killed Captain Cook’ marks the Portland group’s first release of the year and precedes a forthcoming double album of which further intel currently remains under wraps. A press release notes the new single to be dedicated to founder and principle songwriter Ruban Nielson’s mother, its lyrical themes tracing the story of English explorer and coloniser James Cook’s demise which was recounted to Nielson as a child.
In addition to the release of new music Neilson and co. have also revealed plans to embark upon tours of North America and the United Kingdom in 2023, with the two itineraries taking place in Spring and Summer respectively. Among Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s tour of the United Kingdom is an appearance at London’s 02 Academy Brixton on May 31st.
