Hear first single ‘black meditation’ now.

London jazz fixture Shabaka Hutchings has announced the release of a new solo EP.
Afrikan Culture will mark the central component of The Comet Is Coming, Shabaka and the Ancestors and Sons of Kemet’s debut lone outing, with the project’s stirring leading single ‘black meditation’ streaming today.
In a press release Hutchings explains
“Afrikan Culture was made around the idea of meditation and what it means for me to still my own mind and accept the music which comes to the surface. It features various types of Shakuhachi flutes and a new technique of creating that I’ve been experimenting with in layering many flutes together to create a forest of sound where melodies and rhythms float in space and emerge in glimpses.”
A slow-burning composition that deftly showcases the multi-instrumentalist’s profound relationship with a broad range of wind instruments from the bass clarinet to the shakuhachi, hear ‘black meditation’ below.
Afrikan Culture releases on May 20th via Impulse! Records.
