Newport Jazz Festival announce 2022 lineup

The legendary Rhode Island event enlists Esperanza Spalding, BADBADNOTGOOD and more for its forthcoming edition.

Newport Jazz Festival have revealed the first wave of musical acts due to perform at their approaching 2022 event.

The legendary festival which has previously played host to Sun Ra, Miles Davis, Art Blakey, Ornette Coleman, Funkadelic, Nina Simone and countless others over the course of its sixty-plus-year lifespan will return to Newport, Rhode Island’s Fort Adams State Park over three days beginning on July 29th.

Esperanza Spalding and The Jazz Messengers alumni Terence Blanchard feature among those slated to top the bill of Newport Jazz Festival’s 2022 proceedings, bolstered by other noteworthy appearances from the likes of BADBADNOTGOOD, Pino Palladino, Nubya Garcia, Shabaka Hutchings both solo and with Sons Of Kemet, Yussef Dayes and Makaya McCraven.

Elsewhere the event is poised to feature a tribute to its late founder George Wein who passed away in September. The revered promoter was also the founder of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
