Roots Picnic announce 2022 lineup

Featuring Summer Walker, Jazmine Sullivan, Bilal, Rakim, a Soulquarians jam session and more.

The Roots have revealed the lineup for the 2022 edition of their annual Roots Picnic event.

Set to unfold from Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park on June 4th and 5th and succeeding a two year hiatus, the event will see enduring R&B singer-songwriter Mary J. Blige lead festivities with a headlining set bolstered by accompaniment from The Roots.

Elsewhere the festival also confirms appearances from Summer Walker, Jazmine Sullivan, Kamasi Washington, Tierra Whack, Freddie Gibbs, Robert Glasper, Bilal and Rakim in addition to a jam session piloted by members of the fabled Soulquarians collective.

Live Nation Urban president, Roots manager and Roots Picnic co-founder Shawn Gee elaborates in a statement,

“After a long two years, we are excited to announce the return of the Roots Picnic to Philly with two days of music and culture at the Mann at Fairmount Park.

This year, Black Thought, Questlove and I attempted to curate a lineup that broke through the genre barriers that often separate us in black culture. To be able to book Mickey Guyton, Kirk Franklin, G Herbo, Wizkid, Wallo & Gillie, and Mary J Blige on the same lineup was a dream come true.”

Tickets for the festival go on sale to the public on Friday with a limited presale on Tuesday.
