Kamasi Washington has contributed music to a new EP entitled Liberated/Music for the Movement Vol. 3.

The latest instalment in a series of Undefeated-sponsored projects aiming to honour black lives and promote social justice, the EP sees Washington appear alongside Cordae, Common, Lucky Daye, Chlöe and Yara Shahidi. The saxophonist’s contribution features colouring from Marlon Williams, Patrice Quinn and Dwight Trible on guitar and vocal duties respectively.

Contributors to the first two releases in the series of EPs included Bilal, Robert Glasper, Terrace Martin and Freddie Gibbs.

An eight minute journey that seamlessly shifts between sprawling languid stretches and rapturous brass and woodwind exchanges, hear Washington’s ‘Sun Kissed Child’ below.

Kamasi Washington’s last full-length album, Heaven And Earth and its counterpart EP The Choice released to acclaim in 2018. In 2020 Washington teamed with regular collaborators Robert Glasper, Terrace Martin and 9th Wonder to form the supergroup Dinner Party.
