Clouds Hill Recordings previously shared a cryptic social media post that alluded to forthcoming news.
Revered progressive rock band The Mars Volta have been inactive since 2013 however a new social media post reveals that the Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala-led group have woken from their longstanding slumber for an expansive reissue campaign of their discography.
Published from the social media accounts of Hamburg-based studio Clouds Hill Recordings, a post bearing the caption ‘COMING SOON’ prominently displayed the band’s name alongside audio from their celebrated 2003 debut album De-Loused in the Comatorium and the words ‘La Realidad De Los Sueños’, which translate to ‘The Reality Of Dreams’. Thereafter followed confirmation that a reissue campaign of the band’s full discography will arrive in the form of a box set on April 23rd. The deluxe package is slated to feature a photo book of exclusive behind-the-scenes photography and unfinished original recordings and unreleased versions from the De-Loused In The Comatorium studio sessions alongside the band’s out-of-print and seldom seen EPs and albums Tremulant, De-Loused In The Comatorium, Frances The Mute, Amputechture, The Bedlam In Goliath, Octahedron and Noctourniquet.
Last month Clouds Hill Notes announced that they had secured publishing rights to the discography of The Mars Volta in Partnership with Wise Music Group.
When discussing a possible reunion of The Mars Volta in 2019, Bixler-Zavala stated
“What it’s NOT going to be is your ‘fav member lineup’ playing their ‘classic records’ in full etc. Maybe we’ll play old shit, who knows how we feel. Just remember our past campaigns never relied on playing requests or going fully backwards …it’s new shit, new people, left turns , tangent inconsistencies, mazapan dreams and churro wishes. I will say this though, when ORL played me a grip of new shit I fucking cried. Like Claire Daines in Romeo & Juliet cried. Yeah it was fucking weird. It’s in its infancy right now. No deadlines, no ball tripping, no drama, just 2 grown ass men using essential oils and bold new perfumes shooting ideas and scooting their ass across the fucking lawn trying to get rid of these worms.”
