Yuck announce break up

The news arrives on the tenth anniversary of the UK band’s debut album.

Celebrated UK indie rock band Yuck have disbanded. The London quartet confirmed their dissolution via social media platforms today, coinciding with the tenth anniversary of their self-titled debut album’s release.

Praised and decorated for their versatile and dynamic brand of indie rock that has drawn comparisons to the likes of seminal 1990s bands The Smashing Pumpkins and Pavement, Yuck released three full-length albums and one EP during their eleven year tenure as a group.

Yuck’s one lineup change materialised in 2013 when prior to recording sessions for what would become their sophomore album, frontman Daniel Blumberg parted ways with the group to realign his focus to releasing solo works. Bolstered by the support of All Tomorrow’s Parties and Neil Hagerty of Royal Trux, Blumberg released an album under the Hebronix moniker entitled Unreal in 2013 and has subsequently released a further two solo albums under his own name in the years since. He also remains an active contributor to the programming of Dalston live music venue Cafe OTO.

Shortly after Blumberg’s departure from Yuck, the band recruited Ed Hayes to fulfil the role of second guitarist. Outside his duties with Yuck Hayes served as a member of the live band that accompanied Frank Ocean during the promotional tour schedule for his 2016 albums Endless and Blonde.

Coinciding with her long-standing role as the bassist of Yuck Mariko Doi also fronted the London-based trio Parakeet. Several years after the release of Yuck’s third and final album Stranger Things, 2019 saw Doi release and complete a tour in support of her solo debut album Momo Hajimete Warau.

The following year Yuck’s principle songwriter and guitarist Max Bloom released his solo debut album Perfume.
