Sun Ra Arkestra have announced the release of a new album. Swirling marks the legendary jazz troupe’s first full-length project in over twenty years, following 1999’s A Song For The Sun.

Headed by longtime alto saxophonist Marshall Allen who assumed leadership of the ensemble after the passing of bandmates Sun Ra and John Gilmore, the new project was recorded in Philadelphia at Rittenhouse Soundworks and comprises new arrangements of many key compositions from the Arkestra’s vast and celebrated discography. A new recording of Sun Ra’s 1965 song ‘Angels And Demons At Play’ is available for streaming now ahead of the LP’s full release. Listen below.

Swirling releases on October 9th via Strut. Pre-order the album on CD and vinyl here.
