Toronto’s BADBADNOTGOOD have returned with two new songs.

‘Goodbye Blue’ and ‘Glide (Goodbye Blue Pt. 2)’ mark the trio’s first original material as a group since 2018. Rejoining with fellow Canadian and frequent collaborator Jonah Yano on the former, the pairing sparks a transfixing state through its blend of rich vocal harmonies, lulling vibraphone and expressive horn and woodwind passages. Meanwhile ‘Glide’ sees the band voyaging through more familiar, jazz-leaning territory.

Of the new works, bassist Chester Hansen states the following

“The end of 2018 was the beginning of the first long break from touring that we’ve had basically since we started as a band. It was a time of reflection and the opportunity for us to explore all sorts of things. ‘Goodbye Blue’ was one of the songs that came out of this. Eventually, we worked some of the melodies and feeling into a second instrumental which felt like it stood on its own, but was definitely a companion piece. We hope that everyone enjoys these two songs and they offer some peace in these troubled times.”

BADBADNOTGOOD’s last full-length album IV released in 2016.

In the time since the band have continued to feature on works from a host of their contemporaries ranging from Kali Uchis and Tyler, The Creator to Little Dragon and Thundercat in addition to releasing a cover of Milwaukee soul outfit The Majestics’ 1982 single ‘Key to Love (Is Understanding)’ for US label Light In The Attic.

2019 saw founding member Matthew Tavares officially confirm his departure from BADBADNOTGOOD before resurfacing last month to share a new collaborative album with saxophonist and flautist Leland Whitty entitled Visions.
