John Carroll Kirby‘s debut album for Stones Throw Records arrives in the world today.
An accomplished pianist whose deft compositional sensibilities have offered textural depth to the work of a diverse range of contemporaries including Solange, Connan Mockasin and Frank Ocean, Kirby’s own discography naturally also draws from myriad influences with his stylistic breadth perhaps best exemplified within his latest body of work.
Entitled My Garden, the project is an immersive and pacifying listen that sees Kirby seamlessly shift between loping, off-kilter and jazz-flecked grooves, cosmic odysseys of analogue synthesis and thoughtful, hushed new-age vignettes with ease.
