Battles announce new album and intimate London show at The Shacklewell Arms

Juice B Crypts will arrive on October 18th.

Experimental rock torchbearers Battles have returned with the announcement of a new album.

Juice B Crypts marks the New York band’s fourth album and first since the departure of bassist Dave Konopka who was a member of the band since their 2002 inception, featuring on all subsequent studio recordings.

With a lineup now composed of Ian Williams and John Stanier, the duo are joined in their latest body of work by Shabazz Palaces, Prairie WWWW, tUnE-yArDs and Liquid Liquid’s Sal Principato.

Hear the latter’s appearance on preceding single ‘Titanium 2 Step’ below.

Discussing the themes and ideas within the album, Williams elaborates

“Juice B Crypts is about chord progressions, resolutions, returning home. Take that and throw it into a blender of modern electronic tools like glitching devices, or use melodic lines and take them and regurgitate them and pulverize the traditional stuff but at the same time try and retain harmonic relationships while completely smashing them up.”

Ahead of the album’s release Battles have revealed plans for an intimate show at The Shacklewell Arms in East London on August 13th where they will preview material from the project.

Juice B Crypts releases on October 18th via Warp. Find more information and pre-order the album on various physical formats here.
