Yakul dance between erratic and spacious realms on latest single Blossoming

The band’s Getting Late EP lands in August.

Brighton quartet Yakul are in the midst of an objectively noteworthy year. With appearances at famed Soho jazz retreat Ronnie Scott’s – in support of Erykah Badu backing band RC and the Gritz no less – and The Great Escape festival added to an ever-growing list of accolades, the band are now prepping the release of a new EP due for arrival in early August.

Ahead of Getting Late‘s release comes it’s second preview, a syncopated cut that dances between erratic and spacious realms. Taking stylistic cues from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Don Blackman, Jamiroquai and D’Angelo, ‘Blossoming’ is an irrefutable summer jam, all rich horns, sprawling keys and a groove that refuses to leave the pocket.

Yakul are currently in the throws of a Red Bull-curated tour that aims to realign the spotlight’s gaze to Brighton, Bristol and Cardiff’s bustling jazz communities. Catch the band in London on Saturday 22nd June where they perform alongside Tenderlonious and Fatima.
