An unreleased album from the archives of Miles Davis is coming, some twenty eight years after the indelible jazz trumpeter’s passing.

Rubberband was set to be Davis’ debut project for Warner Bros. Records following his abrupt departure from longtime label Columbia and according to his team, features material that serves as a precursor to the nosedive in to funk and soul sonics that encapsulated his subsequent releases throughout the late eighties.

Rubberband was ultimately shelved to prioritise work on sessions for 1986’s Tutu, however it has now been revealed that the album will see a full release following completion by original producers Randy Hall and Zane Giles in collaboration with Davis’ nephew Vince Wilburn Jr. who performed on the initial 1985 sessions. Also featured on the album are Lalah Hathaway and Grammy-nominated jazz singer Ledisi, who guests on an alternate version of the titular track, ‘Rubberband Of Life’.

Hear Ledisi’s contribution to the LP below.

Rubberband releases on September 6th via Rhino.
