Following the trap-infused ‘Outro Freestyle’.

Steve Lacy has returned to reveal the second glimpse of his forthcoming debut album Apollo XXI in less than 24 hours.
Arriving on the heels of ‘Outro Freestyle’, ‘Playground’ offers a stylistic contrast to its trap-infused predecessor as Lacy channels the dexterity and steeze of Prince for an irrefutable Summer bop.
Discussing the creative process behind ‘Playground’, Lacy said the following in conversation with Zane Lowe
“I think this was in my Prince phase, where I was all Prince. But I also have my Dirty Projectors phase in there. It came with that riff, and then the hook came, and… I wrote the verses in that month, so I held on to that hook and everything for a while before I actually wrote the song.”
