New D’Angelo documentary premieres at Tribeca Film Festival, watch the official trailer now

Devil’s Pie: D’Angelo documents the Richmond musician’s return following a prolonged hiatus.

Neo-soul luminary D’Angelo is the subject of a new documentary.

Featuring direction from Dutch filmmaker Carine Bijlsma, Devil’s Pie: D’Angelo documents the Richmond musician’s fourteen year hiatus from music that followed touring in support of his acclaimed sophomore album Voodoo. Furthermore the feature discusses D’Angelo’s eventual return to the public eye in 2014 and subsequent third album Black Messiah in detail.

Presented is footage of the rehearsals that preceded D’Angelo’s 2015 Second Coming tour in addition to rare interviews with the musician, his management and collaborators such as Questlove of The Roots and Soulquarians.

Billboard also notes that is it confirmed in the documentary’s closing sequence that D’Angelo is currently at work on his fourth full-length studio album.

Whilst the documentary was premiered at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival last week, no official release date has been announced yet.

D’Angelo’s last musical release was a standalone single entitled ‘Unshaken’ which features in the soundtrack to popular video game Red Dead Redemption 2.
