Lifted from the forthcoming surf film Self Discovery For Social Survival.
Independent record label Mexican Summer and surf brand Pilgrim Surf + Supply have convened to create a collaborative feature film.
Entitled Self Discovery For Social Survival and cited as a voyage in sight, sound, and surf, the project documents professional surfers visiting some of the world’s most notable surf locations – Mexico, the Maldives and Iceland. An original soundtrack scored by Peaking Lights, Allah Las, Connan Mockasin and Andrew VanWyngarden of MGMT provides companionship to the film’s three vignettes.
Ahead of the project’s June 18th release, Mockasin and VanWyngarden’s ‘Bad Boys’ provides a murky and hypnotic preview in to the world of Self Discovery For Social Survival through contorted vocals, warbling synths and a heady, downtempo groove.

A premiere screening of Self Discovery For Social Survival is set to take place at LA’s Palace Theatre on June 15th. During the evening Allah Las, Connan Mockasin and Andrew VanWyngarden will provide a live score in accompaniment.
