Watch the Oxnard local discuss his influences, political viewpoints and more in the Ross Harris-directed clip.
Smoke ‘Em Got ‘Em is a collaborative project between multimedia artist Ross Harris and musician Matthew Arango that tells the latter’s story to date, presented in a short-form documentary and set in the town that both call home.
2018 has seen Arango’s Cola Boyy project catapulted in to the spotlight following the release of ‘Penny Girl’, the first single from his debut EP Black Boogie Neon. The disco and funk infused jam has led to Arango signing a deal with Record Makers and sharing stages with Mac DeMarco and MGMT whilst touring internationally.
As a director, Harris’ portfolio includes previous work with LA beat collective Stones Throw Records, Anderson .Paak and the late Elliot Smith to name but a few.
Smoke ‘Em Got ‘Em serves as a platform for Arango to discuss political climates, activism, artistic beginnings and how the city of Oxnard informs his music.
