The 10 piece band’s set arrives amid their fiftieth anniversary celebrations.

For the newest installment in NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series, horn-driven funk luminaries Tower of Power strategically positioned themselves within the confines of the series’ titular desk for a glorious exercise in soul music.
The ten-piece band, who are currently celebrating their fiftieth anniversary performed a three song setlist composed of the title track from their 2018 album Soul Side Of Town, followed by ‘So Very Hard to Go’ and ‘What Is Hip?’ from the band’s classic eponymous 1973 album, Tower Of Power. The band’s current iteration features original members David Garibaldi, Stephen ‘Doc’ Kupka and Emilio Castillo, accompanied by current lead vocalist Marcus Scott whose commanding stage presence and impressive runs make his given position one that is wholly deserved.
