The stop-motion flick will hit the big screen this month.
Wes Anderson is set to make his return to cinemas this month with the stop-motion animated Isle Of Dogs and scoring the film is composer and long-time collaborator Alexandre Desplat.
Desplat previously worked with the acclaimed director on 2009’s Fantastic Mr. Fox for which his score was Oscar-nominated and again in 2014 on The Grand Budapest Hotel, which earned the composer his first Oscar win.
Beyond Deplast’s score, the soundtrack will also feature compositions lifted from two Akira Kurosawa films: “Kanbei & Katsushiro/Kikuchiyo’s Mambo” from Seven Samurai and “Kosame No Oka” from Drunken Angel in addition to tracks from Kaoru Watanabe, The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band and The Sauter-Finegan Orchestra.
Voiced by a cast that features Bill Murray (Duh), Edward Norton, Bryan Cranston, Jeff Goldblum, Scarlett Johansson and Yoko Ono to name but a few, Isle Of Dogs tells the story of Atari Kobayashi, a 12-year-old ward to corrupt Mayor Kobayashi. When, by Executive Decree, all the canine pets of Megasaki City are exiled to a vast garbage-dump called Trash Island, Atari sets off alone in a miniature Junior-Turbo Prop and flies across the river in search of his bodyguard-dog, Spots. There, with the assistance of a pack of newly-found mongrel friends, he begins an epic journey that will decide the fate and future of the entire Prefecture.
Anderson’s return to stop-motion recently opened the Berlin International Film Festival and is set to close the 2018 SXSW Film Festival on March 17th before officially releasing in the United States on March 23rd and in the United Kingdom on March 30th.
