Common fronted supergroup August Greene are the most recent guests to grace the stage of NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series. The group that features Common, Robert Glasper and Karriem Riggins within its core were accompanied on stage by Burniss Travis, Samora Pinderhughes and DJ Dummy, playing a handful of previously released singles and unheard cuts from the group’s forthcoming eponymous debut album.
The soul-stirring set opened with Common unofficially dubbing the performance ‘Foregrounding women’ as a means to promote gender equality, before inviting Brandy, Andra Day and Maimouna Youssef on stage to accompany the group in their respective collaborative efforts.
The performance marks the group’s second for NPR following their 2016 set at the White House where they debuted the Emmy award-winning ‘Letter to the Free’.
