Pitchfork recently revived Juan’s Basement, a live performance series that sees artists play songs from their discographies and answer audience submitted questions from the basement of one Juan Pieczanski of indie rock band Small Black.
Philosopher come avant-garde musician John Maus showcased material from his recent album Screen Memories in episode 1 of the show’s new series whilst the episode that followed saw Peter Sagar – aka Homeshake – bring his brand of sultry and hushed R&B to the basement. Over thirty minutes Sagar wears his influences on his sleeve, quite literally, entering the basement to a screwed sample of Whitney Houston’s recording of ‘I’m Every Woman’ and wearing a Sade t shirt whilst running through cuts from In The Shower, Midnight Snack and Fresh Air.
Never had the opportunity to see Homeshake live? Now is your time to tune in. Watch the full set below.
Sagar released his Fresh Air, his third full length album under the Homeshake moniker in 2017.
