Stream The Orielles’ stellar debut album Silver Dollar Moment

The Halifax-based genre benders deliver on their debut LP.

Today marks the release of the long-awaited debut from The Orielles, which follows on from their signing to indie rock institution Heavenly Recordings and provides an insight in to three minds that are considerably more culturally informed than their ages would suggest.

Adorned with earworm melodies, idiosyncrasies and a youthful curiosity, Silver Dollar Moment features the previously released singles ‘I Only Bought It For The Bottle’, ‘Let Your Dog Tooth Grow’ and ‘Blue Suitcase (Disco Wrist)’, though is noticeably absent of ‘Sugar Tastes Like Salt’ – the 8 minute opus that arguably best demonstrates the aforementioned qualities.

Whether intentional or not, the chorus line of opening track ‘Mango’ is a fitting one. In unison bassist Esmé and guitarist Henry sing “This place feels familiar”, a sentiment that is reflective of the disparate influences boasted in their music. References to post-punk, psychedelia, the baggy leanings of early 90s Manchester and the hedonistic music that echoed the walls of New York’s Studio 54 and Paradise Garage throughout the 70s and 80s are seen through the album, making the twelve songs enclosed within their debut both nostalgic and fresh in the same breath.

Silver Dollar Moment stands as a testament to the fact that we truly live in an exciting time for music due to all generations past being readily available for us to explore and digest at the drop of a hat, or more literally, the click of a mouse.
