Frank Ocean covers Moon River following Valentine’s Day

Ocean puts his spin on the Breakfast At Tiffany’s classic.

The ever elusive Frank Ocean has taken to his Tumblr account to share new music following Valentine’s Day.

Accompanied with a caption that simply reads “in the late nite”, Frank performs a cover of the Academy Award winning ‘Moon River’. In similar ilk to a wealth of the instrumentation heard in his 2016 album Blonde, the cover sees Ocean’s voice backed by pitched shifted vocal harmonies, a lone, understated guitar, synthesizers and lush strings. Listen below.

‘Moon River’ gained fame for Audrey Hepburn’s performance of the song in the 1961 film Breakfast At Tiffany’s.

Frank is no stranger to paying homage to his predecessors, having featured an arrangement of ‘(They Long To Be) Close To You’ – most notably performed by The Carpenters – on Blonde and a cover of Nigerian disco musician Steve Monite’s ‘Only You’ in the setlist of select tour dates in 2017.

Speculation over when the R&B luminary will release new music has been frenzied following hints made by Ocean in the final months of last year. Two posts made by Ocean on his one and only social media handle read

“If you liked 2017, you’ll love 2018”

“Well, I made the album before 30. I just ain’t put that bitch out!’ – quotes from an interview I haven’t given haha”

Given the time frame between 2012’s channel ORANGE and the albums that followed in 2016, it may be optimistic to think that an album will arrive this year, but here’s to hoping.
