Ultimate Painting are no more, citing an “irreconcilable breakdown”

Jack Cooper announced news of the split via Twitter.

On Monday morning, Jack Cooper of Ultimate Painting announced through a post made on his Twitter account that the duo have parted ways “due to an irreconcilable breakdown”.

The London-based band formed in 2014 after Hoare and Cooper met whilst touring with their respective bands at the time, Veronica Falls and Mazes. The band released three albums – Ultimate Painting, Green Lanes and Dusk – between 2014 and 2016 before turning their attention to side projects in 2017. In January of that year Hoare released the second LP from The Proper Ornaments, whilst Cooper released his first solo effort entitled Sandgrown in August which he toured in to 2018 alongside a backing band that boasted members of Parquet Courts and Woods. Furthermore, Cooper has confirmed that recording sessions for his sophomore solo effort are now underway.

Ultimate Painting were scheduled to release their fourth LP Up! – their first with Bella Union – in April, having shared news of the album mere weeks ago. However Cooper stated that the band have now contacted the label requesting for the album to be shelved, to which Bella Union have agreed.
