I like sad white boy music too. That stuff is all important to me, but it’s coming from a hip-hop perspective. I feel like it’s coming from a drummer’s perspective.
Word Is Bond is a new hip-hop documentary set to premiere on February 16th through Showtime. Directed by Sacha Jenkins, the documentary is slated to “explore the transformative power of lyrics in the world of hip-hop.”
Featured musicians include Nas, Pusha T, J. Cole, Big Daddy Kane and Anderson .Paak amongst others.
The latter is the focus of the documentary’s latest trailer. In the 2 minute clip .Paak elaborates on his influences.
“I consider myself someone that’s coming up out of the hip-hop culture. And when I really was trying to write music, I thought I was going to be an MC. I thought I was going to be a gangster rapper. I was influenced by Snoop and Dre and there was nothing bigger than that.”
“I love Radiohead’s stuff. I like sad white boy music, too. That stuff is all important to me, and it all goes into my artistry, but it’s coming from a hip-hop perspective. I feel like it’s coming from a drummer’s perspective. That’s my first tool, so that’s kind of how my brain hears music.“
.Paak recently revealed the first details of his follow up to 2016’s Malibu, telling Triple J that he is currently in the process of mixing his new record with help from Dr. Dre and for fans to expect a 2018 release.
In the meantime, rewatch .Paak performing ‘Suede’ from his collaborative album with Knxwledge in the Stones Throw dungeon and familiarise yourself with the original trailer for Word Is Bond.
Word Is Bond premieres at 10pm EST on February 16th.
