On January 10th, electronic musical instrument luminaries Moog Music announced regular production of a new analogue percussion synthesizer. DFAM, or Drummer From Another Mother, was originally unveiled in May 2017 at Moogfest where attendees were given the opportunity to participate in a workshop where they built the unit alongside Moog engineers. Similarly, at Moogfest 2016 attendees built the Brother From Another Mother module – an all-in-one sequencer and synth voice module, however this was never continued to regular production.

DFAM is the second unit in Moog’s Mother series of semi-modular analogue synthesizers. It boasts the same versatility as the company’s Mother-32 synthesizer in that it is euro-rack compatible, so has the ability to work as a standalone unit or as part of a larger modular system.

In terms of specs, DFAM features two wide range oscillators with square and triangle waveforms, a white noise generator, an 8-step sequencer with pitch and velocity per-step, a 10 octave range, Moog’s ladder filter which is switchable between high and low pass, a 24-point patchbay and 3 envelopes.

To showcase some of the Drummer From Another Mother’s sonic capabilities, Moog enlisted Discwoman Collective’s DJ Haram, Stud1nt and Umfang to feature in the instrument’s first promotional video which is available to watch below. Synth heads, grab your wallets as DFAM has already begun shipping from the Moog Factory and is available now at Authorized Moog Music Dealers worldwide.
